Clothesline Socks are 48 white socks, each containing a hidden speaker. The clotheslines serve as the cables. All the technical components are concealed behind the wall. The socks whisper a vocabulary of 23 words according to a strict set of rules. The sequence of words is generated in real time by a language model that evaluates its own performance at the end of each cycle and uses that to shape the next run. The evaluation sounds like an airport announcement following a signal chime: “Thank you!”—encouragement, hyper-specific criticism—what went well and where there’s room for improvement. And before it starts all over again: “Your next training session begins in seven!”
