Jojo Sélavy
Stage character and music performance, 2024
Jojo Sélavy draws on several archetypes of stage performers to create a minimalist, spoken-word-based pop figure.
Bathed in blue light and standing on a white cushion, the figure becomes almost a moving sculpture, reduced to expressions, voice, and gestures. The lyrics, sometimes cryptic and sometimes narrative, form permuting sentence loops that tell tragicomic stories of longing, hope, and anger.
The 30-minute performance »Herzen Blau« (engl. Hearts Blue) was performed at SLOT and Westwerk in Hamburg, Stadtgarten Cologne, the auditorium of the Academy of Media Arts Cologne and Theater Mülheim an der Ruhr.
